About Me

My name is Valerie Cady, the owner of Winnow & Spruce Organizing.

I live in River Falls, Wisconsin, about 40 minutes from the Twin Cities.  I started this business in 2015, although I've been organizing for as long as I can remember.  

 As a professional organizer, I keep an open mind, looking at potential and possibility in every projectI am not afraid to get dirty. Most importantly, I provide a safe environment of acceptance by honoring you and your life story. 
The first word in my business name, "Winnow" comes from the ancient process of separating the wheat from the chaff.  When I organize with you, we focus on what you want to keep and how to organize it well so that it continue to bring you pleasure and joy.  The rest can go.
The second word, "Spruce" is the fun!  Together we make a space beautiful for you to enjoy.  Clients are surprised at how simple solutions can make a big difference and there is delight in finding what was once lost.
I have a varied background starting with a bachelors degree in dual majors; therapeutic recreation and psychology.  My professional work experience includes: working as a recreation therapist in psychiatric, chemical dependency
and developmental disability settings, ropes course and teambuilding facilitation, adaptive ski instructor, volunteer coordinator, sales director with Discovery Toys, head of a small Montessori school and most recently as an assistant for a real estate team.
This has given me a lot of experience working with many different types of people.  I dislike attaching labels and diagnoses and instead enjoy building a relationship and connection with each client I serve.  I believe that the organizing process is transformative and that there is always something to learn.  I have a strong work ethic and I am quite efficient and very creative.  I have been described as motivational and positive and I am determined to hold your hand through the overwhelm and not let go until the project is complete.
I've worked on all types of projects.  Entire houses with rooms including:  kitchens, basements, bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, home offices, craft rooms, libraries, entry ways, laundry rooms, garages and even backyards.
Small spaces such as closets, desks, pantries, playrooms.  
And special projects like setting up filing systems, organizing a computer, organizing recipes for ease of meal planning and creating digital photo albums.
A 50 foot storage trailer was my largest project to date.  The client and I had it cleared out and organized in just 4 days!
